Your Ultimate Guide to the Utah Valley Parade of Homes

The Fox Den Built by, Robison Build Co.

When my family and I moved to Utah in 2020, I visited my very first Parade of Homes and I could not believe what I was seeing. I walked through each house completely in awe. I took pictures and videos of almost every room because the inspiration was endless. I had never seen anything like this in all my years living in San Diego.

I grew up in Northern California where most of the homes in my neighborhood were track homes. They were nice, but they were simple and very similar to one another. Walking through these custom homes in Utah felt like stepping into a different world. The architects, the designers, the builders and the landscape teams put so much talent and creativity into every detail. It sparked something in me. I wanted to learn more, understand more and somehow be part of this world of beautiful homes.

Today my husband and I are building our own custom home which we have named Cripple Creek. So many of our ideas came from the Parade of Homes that we have visited over the years. It truly has been one of the biggest sources of inspiration for our build.

Why the Parade of Homes Is Worth Visiting

If you love home design, beautiful architecture and fresh ideas for your own space, the Utah Valley Parade of Homes is something you need to experience at least once. People travel from all over the country to walk through these homes. If you live anywhere in Utah County, it is one of the most exciting events of the year.

Every time I talk with builders, designers and architects before the parade begins, the energy is contagious. The homes get better every single year and there is always something new to see.

Here is everything you should know before you go so you can enjoy the parade like a pro.

Know the Parade Schedule

The parade is closed on Sundays and Mondays. This surprises many people, especially first time visitors. All the homes are open Tuesday through Saturday. The official schedule is listed on the Utah Valley Parade of Homes website, so check there before you plan your visit.

Tips for Buying Tickets

You can buy your tickets online or through local sponsors. Some sponsors offer a small discount and even include a tote bag or a lanyard with your ticket. It is a fun little bonus if you enjoy collecting parade souvenirs.

How to Avoid the Crowds

Weekdays are the best time to go if you want a calmer experience. Fridays and Saturdays can get busy and the lines can grow quickly. If your schedule allows it, go in the middle of the week so you can enjoy the homes at your own pace.

Plan Your Home Tour Route

One of the most helpful tools you can use is the Parade of Homes app. The app gives you a map of all the homes along with photos and directions.

The homes are spread out across the valley in places like Alpine, Highland, Pleasant Grove, American Fork, Salem and Woodland Hills. Some of them are nearly an hour apart. Grouping the homes by location makes the whole day much easier. I like to tour five to ten homes in one area and then move on to the next group.

Trying to see all of the homes in one day can be overwhelming. Plan for two or three days if you want to enjoy your time and take in all the details.

Why You Should Go Even If You Are Not Building

The parade is full of ideas for anyone who loves homes. You will see the newest floor plans, design ideas, color trends, custom cabinets and exterior styles. You can walk through kitchens, living rooms, mudrooms and outdoor spaces that look like they belong in a magazine.

Many builders and designers are onsite and they are usually very friendly and open to questions. It is the perfect chance to learn and gather ideas for your own project.

Look for Inspiration Everywhere

Every year I share some of my favorite designs and rooms on my social channels because there is always something special that stands out. Whether you love modern, traditional, mountain or coastal inspired homes, there is something for everyone.
