While we loved the beach life in San Diego, we found that Utah offers so many more activities for families year-round.

Salt Lake City is an incredibly family-friendly place. Many of the families I’ve helped move here say the same thing: everything feels closer, more accessible, and just easier. The cost of living can be more affordable compared to other states (depending on where you're coming from), and the education system is fantastic.

For example, my kids go to a charter school with small class sizes (about 19-25 kids per class) and each classroom has not just a teacher but also a full-time instructional assistant. The curriculum and extracurricular activities are top-notch. Whether your kids are into soccer, basketball, gymnastics, skiing, or baseball, there are plenty of leagues and programs to choose from—including ski teams that take kids up to the slopes by bus!

Indoor & Outdoor Activities

If you love an active lifestyle, Utah has it all. Winter sports include skiing, snowboarding, snowshoeing, and even snowmobiling. And when the snow melts, you can enjoy hiking, kayaking, canoeing, golfing, and more. Even when it's cold, you won’t feel cooped up—there are incredible indoor recreation centers with swimming pools, pickleball courts, tennis courts, basketball courts, and even indoor running tracks.

A Strong Sense of Community

One thing that stood out to my family when we moved here was how friendly everyone is. Whether you're at the grocery store or out at a community event, people are genuinely kind, helpful, and welcoming. Every city has its own festivals, like Swiss Days, Highland Fling, and Alpine Days, making it easy to get involved and meet new people.

Thriving Job Market

Salt Lake City has a strong job market, with many opportunities across different industries. The tech sector is booming in Lehi, known as the “Silicon Slopes,” and unemployment rates remain low compared to the national average. If you’re looking for a career change or new job opportunities, this is a great place to be.

Arts, Culture, and Music

Utah is home to amazing cultural attractions, including the Utah Symphony, the world-famous Tabernacle Choir at Temple Square, and numerous local theater and music programs. If you appreciate the arts, you’ll love the vibrant scene here.

While home prices have risen in recent years, Utah is still more affordable than many other states. Many families moving here appreciate the larger homes and yards they can get for their money.
